I created a data model using Power Query and Power Pivot in Excel 2013 when I went to open in Excel 2016 displays the following error message in the data update
“The query was not executed or the data model can not be accessed See the error message received:. An unexpected exception occurred”
on my computer it works correctly, however other with Excel 2016 works notatt.

July 6, 2016 at 4:53 pm #5180Hi,
Initial thoughts are that sometimes an individual workbook will be corrupted in the conversion process.
However, thinking again, maybe the issue is not corruption. Can you open the Power Pivot window in the workbook and locate a formula that has an error indicator next to it (either for a calculated column or a measure)?
When I started using Excel 2016, one of the issues that I encountered using data models that worked well in 2013 was that my dates table was often named Calendar which became a keyword in Excel 2016 and therefore needed to be delimited with single quotation marks to consistently work as expected.
The above paragraph may not be the case for you, but let me know if the Power Pivot window is at least accessible and whether any of the formulas have an error indicator next to them.

The problem is that, when you open the spreadsheet, and begins to update the queries, displays the error message and Excel is locked.
I have disabled the update of the tables in the opening, not error
I activated the update just the fact query, not error
I activated the update a fact query and a dimension, in error
no formula has error

I was able to open, refresh (multiple times) and interact with the workbooks without an error.
A couple of times I did receive warnings that the power pivot engine could not start a task while before it had finished whatever process it was currently working on, but I closed the workbook and re-opened without receiving the messages again.
I am running 64-bit professional plus edition of Excel 2016 for Office 365 (which, by definition of Office 365 has all service packs installed).
If changing the formulas makes the workbooks run better on your client machines, that is good. I think it might also be worth investigating which version (32 bit or 64) of Excel 2016 you clients were running. When I first tried extracting the files I was running up against some perceived security issues which I was able to resolve, so maybe there could have also been some security issues on the client machines.
Otherwise, everything worked for me.
