There is a data model workbook with some wide PowerPivot pivot tables.  When adding a new measure to a pivot table all of the workbook’s tables refresh, which takes a long period of time.

Using Excel 2010 is there any way, potentially including VBA, to delay a PowerPivot pivot table update while measures are being added to the Values section?

I found the issue to be related to a shared slicer among the pivot tables.  Disconnected the slicer from the old tables temporarily and the new pivot table updates quickly.

After building out the new pivot table I’ll reconnect the slicer to all of the tables and see what happens.

    Ron,

Even though there may be that one slicer, it would be interesting to know if unchecking “Visually indicate items with no data” (turning off slicer cross-filtering” in Slicer Settings would also have helped performance instead of disconnecting slicer altogether.

    Hiya.
Grab olap pivottables extension. Google that. Unpack…install…right click in a pivot and select disable autorefresh.
A little buggy at times…but 90 percent of the time hassle free.
