If you’re getting Error Transport error code was 0x80040217
Please check that your username (gmail email address) and password is correct and that you specify the same address for sender as your gmail account email address.
Also if you have Gmail 2-step authentication enabled, you might need to use an application-specific Gmail password.
Yes, I confirmed my email/pwd is correct, and is specified as the sender for my gmail account. and my account is *not* setup for 2-step authentication.
Please try setting the port to 465 in Advanced Settings in Email options as port 587 might be blocked in your organization.
Is this a personal gmail account or a Google apps account?
Can you try to send mail using your gmail account with an email client like Outlook with the standard settings, to confirm that the required ports / protocols are not blocked by your organization:
